Parent

A Parent personality:

  • Feels responsible and takes charge, often acting with authority and speaking firmly through statements rather than questions

  • Uses control and authority while attempting to be generous and nurturing

  • Prioritizes organization over emotional considerations

  • Tends to avoid showing emotions to maintain an appearance of control

  • Projects an image of being in control and having greater importance than others

  • May view others' empowerment as threatening to their position

  • Can become confrontational through attacking or belittling behaviors

  • Exhibits more rigid behavior patterns than Adult or Child personalities

  • Focuses on telling rather than asking

  • May struggle with others' independence

Adult

An Adult personality:

  • Treats others as equals, acknowledging their equal rights and autonomy

  • Shows general acceptance and tolerance of others

  • Demonstrates self-empowerment while taking responsibility for their own life

  • Recognizes others' capacity to make decisions and act independently

  • Actively listens and seeks to understand others' perspectives and feelings

  • Openly shares personal information and experiences

  • Expresses emotions spontaneously and authentically

  • Avoids manipulation when pursuing their needs and wants

  • Respects others' right to different opinions and behaviors, even when disagreeing

  • Strives for cooperation in interactions

  • Shows more flexibility in approach than Parent personality

Child

A Child personality:

  • Exhibits spontaneity, playfulness, creativity, imagination, and exploratory behavior

  • Can be carefree and irrepressible in nature

  • Maintains primary focus on self and personal needs

  • Often feels powerless or vulnerable in situations

  • Frequently adopts a victim mentality regarding others or circumstances

  • Views others as being in control and holding responsibility

  • Struggles to recognize consequences of personal actions

  • Attempts to gain power through manipulation due to lack of true self-empowerment

  • Deflects responsibility by blaming others

  • Acts helpless to avoid responsibility and attract rescue from sympathetic individuals

  • Builds power through collusion with others against authority figures

  • Has difficulty separating events from emotional responses

  • Shows more flexibility than Parent personality but less structure than Adult
