THE BUILDING BLOCKS

Everyone Has Them.
Most People Have Never Named Them.

Personas are the individual moods, attitudes and behaviours that make up your personality. Meeting them is where the journey begins.

UNDERSTANDING PERSONAS

What is a persona?

A persona is more than a mood. It is a mood combined with the attitude that accompanies it — a recognisable piece of behaviour that has a beginning and an end.

Your personas include happy moods and sad ones, depressions, types of anger, fears, work roles, family roles, adventurous moods, quiet moods, and recurring thoughts. Even the critical voice in your head is a persona.

Every persona was developed to help you participate in life — or to survive it. That makes every one of them important, even the ones you don't like.

EACH PERSONA HAS FIVE QUALITIES

ORIGINS

Where do your personas come from?

They were copied, learned, or created by yourself — mostly without your awareness — as responses to the situations you encountered throughout your life. The development of your personality is not something that happened to you once. It is ongoing.

This is not a fixed process. Your personality is dynamic — it can keep growing and developing, at any age, if you choose it.

THE THREE ROLES

Parent, Adult and Child.

Every persona you have operates in one of three communication styles. Understanding these roles is one of the most illuminating parts of the MyPersonalities® journey.

WARRIOR PERSONAS

Your inner allies.

A warrior persona is that part of you that is goal-focused, determined, or persistent — or all three. Warriors get things done. They endure. They focus. They act when action is needed.

Warriors can be male, female, or androgynous. Physical or spiritual. Constructive or — when misdirected — destructive. Every personality needs them.

In the MyPersonalities® program, identifying your Warrior personas gives you access to inner allies. When a negative persona is pulling you down, a Warrior persona can be the resource that brings you back.

Warrior personas are not about aggression. They are about the sustained, focused energy that gets things done — whatever form that takes in you.

Even a golfer — in that seemingly relaxed stance — carries a warrior persona. The stillness is the strength.
— Russell Kennard

VOICE-THOUGHT PERSONAS

The persona that never stops talking.

Most people have a voice in their head that comments on everything they do. That voice is a persona too.

Voice-thought personas are the inner critics, inner guides, and inner commentators. They don't always act in the world — but they talk to every other persona, which means they influence almost everything.

These personas can be among the most destructive in the personality — and also among the most transformable. When you understand what your inner critic is actually trying to do for you, something shifts.

I used to hear them constantly. Now I only hear The Guide and The Sage.
— Mitchell, five weeks into the program

THE BIGGER PICTURE

It is from our inner selves that everything springs.

Your personas are not problems to be solved. They are parts of you that developed for good reasons — and they are waiting to be understood. When you name them, map them, and hear what they need, they stop running your life unconsciously and start working with you.

That is what MyPersonalities® makes possible.

It is our inner selves that are the least seen by others, and least understood by us. Yet it is from our inner selves which springs everything that we are.
— Russell Kennard
